We have a winner!  fivezero has guessed it correctly!

It’s the cap from the CoverGirl LashBlast volume mascara!  I just opened a new tube.

I feel like CG pioneered this technique of showing the mascara wand individually from the tube to showcase the novelty of the bristles.  I feel like it’s type of wasteful however I do recycle it.

(I ought to likewise credit rating StyledWithJoy having guessed it on Twitter, although she called it Maybelline LashBlast!)

This was fun! I ought to do much more of these!

Review: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

I purchased the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer during the April Sephora VIB sale as well as started using it in May.

Spoiler alert: this product made it into my recent favourites list. So you understand it scores at least 8 or above out of 10. as well as here’s why.

The Nars packaging is quite iconic. Simple, rounded squares with a rubberized finish:

That cap does draw in powders as well as smudges like a magnet. however I do appreciate that the cap lines up completely with the base when I close the tube – it’s the bit things that matter! It has a doe-foot wand applicator which is quite basic with concealers. I don’t have a strong preference for a wand or a capture tube – there are pros as well as cons for both.

There are 10 colours provided in this concealer, which I believe is impressive:

From L to R:
Chantilly – true ivory shade for fairest complexions
Vanilla – small cast of pink for the fair complexion
Honey – warm peach tone for light to medium complexion
Custard – Yellow tone for light to medium complexion
Ginger – golden undertone for undertones medium complexion
Biscuit – medium dark natural balance of pink as well as yellow undertones
Caramel – medium dark yellow as well as golden undertones
Amande – medium dark with golden olive undertones
Cafe – Dark shade with warm red
Cacao – Dark shade with deep gold-brown undertones

I was matched to Custard (Medium 1) which I believe is about a 90% match for my NC20 skin tone – the shades on either side are as well peachy / dark for me.

Claims:
• long using as well as crease-proof
• Blurs appearance of lines as well as wrinkles
• Hides dark circles as well as indications of fatique
• Buildable medium to full coverage
• Botanical blend assists to firm as well as stamina skin
• Antioxidant protection
• Paraben-free, Alcohol free, synthetic fragrance free, Non comedogenic

The concealer certainly delivers on being long using as well as crease-proof. These are most likely the top 2 high qualities I look for in an under eye concealer. The structure of the concealer is creamy as well as thicker than the typical concealer.  And the protection is one of the very best I’ve discovered in an under eye concealer – it conceals my dark circles without looking mask-like.

I feel that Custard looks fantastic when very first applied, however it does oxidize slightly:

L to R: freshly applied, dried after 15 minutes, as well as over Becca Under Eye Corrector (blended)
I’d discussed that when I went to the as well dealt with born This method Concealer pre-launch event, the SA guessed which Nars concealer shade I was using since of exactly how peach it looked. She suggested that I go a shade lighter – however this isn’t an choice since the lighter shade, Honey, is even more peach (and the next shade down, Vanilla, is as well light as well as pink).  It’s likely that the Nars concealer had oxidized, as well as I believe it’s possible that I had used as well much of the Becca Under Eye Brightening Concealer underneath.  I’ve tested this concealer different ways: on its own, over Becca Under Eye Concealer, as well as likewise set with Nars Light Reflecting Looser setting Powder. My favored method to wear this is over the corrector as well as set with powder.

It’s likewise a fuss-free concealer in terms of application: I apply the concealer by placing 3-4 dots under each eye, then I tap with my sound finger to blend in. Some days I utilize a Beauty Blender-type sponge to blend, however many days I just use my fingers – it provides a streak-free, smooth application.  I mainly utilize this concealer for my under eye area because it seems to be marketed for that purpose, however, I did try it for area concealing as well as for redness around my nose, as well as it carried out extremely well for that function too. I still choose stick concealer for area concealing as they’re much more pigmented as well as last longer. Lastly, I ought to mention that when I very first started utilizing this concealer, I believed it was triggering milia (little bumps) around my eyes, however it turns out it wasn’t – phew! (I suspect it was a sample eye cream I was testing)

This costs $36 CAD for 6ml of product, as well as is made in the USA. Nars is sold at Sephora as well as Hudson’s Bay in Canada.  I’ve been using this concealer for just 2 months as well as I already feel like it’s starting to get utilized up – I will screen exactly how long a tube lasts me.

I chose to begin a much more objective comparison for specific products like concealers as well as mascaras because those are the products I scrutinize the most. Here’s exactly how Nars stacks up against other concealers I’ve tried:

The scores on this chart don’t necessarily translate to the final score – they don’t take into account other elements like cost / value, packaging, scent, shade range, etc:

Here’s my final score of the Nars concealer:

Pros:
• outstanding coverage
• Creamy consistency
• Does not crease or work out into fine lines
• long long lasting finish
• great for both under eye as well as area concealing
• broad variety of colours

Cons:
• Expensive
• Oxidizes slightly

Stash worthiness: 8/10

The high cost of this concealer truly drops its score for me.  For a fantastic budget option, I extremely suggest the Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser concealer.  Edited to add: numerous evaluations compare Maybelline’s in shape Me Concealer as a less expensive dupe to the Nars as well as I state NOPE! in shape Me offers method less protection as well as does not last all the time like the Nars does.  The only similarities I see are: both are creamy, simple to apply, as well as have similar packaging. That’s it. [I’ve added the Maybelline in shape Me in the tables above]

The Nars site listings their bestsellers, as well as the concealer is placed #5 – after Orgasm blush, Laguna bronzer, VIP Red Semi Matte lipstick, Dominique Audacious lipstick. Although, I don’t truly count the 2 lipsticks since one is restricted edition as well as the other is an on the internet only special – so actually, let’s phone call the concealer #3, after Orgasm blush as well as Laguna bronzer. That is outstanding thinking about that this concealer isn’t even that old in Nars’ line-up, it was only introduced in 2013! Surely, Orgasm blush as well as Laguna bronzer have to be at least 10 years old? [I just checked, Orgasm blush was lunched in 1999 as well as I couldn’t discover a conclusive year for the bronzer] Anyway… all I’m stating is, this concealer is popular, as well as I can comprehend why.  Have you tried this concealer?

Nails of the Week, Smith & Cult Bitter Buddhist | Your thoughts on Lash Serum?

Smith & Cult Bitter Buddhist
Hi, guys! This is an OG fave shade that I’ve had and loved for years, Smith & Cult Bitter Buddhist. It’s a pale spring green with gray undertones and a fun alternative to the common pastel mint greens that so typically pop up in the spring.

I love it because it’s one of those colors that can look completely different depending on the light. in some cases it’s much more green, other times it’s much more blue!

I was poking around the Smith & Cult site recently, and discovered there’s a similar shade with a different name — Bitter Cashmere Daydream. If you love complex pale greens, this is certainly one to consider.

Your thoughts on lash serum?

Why yes, I added big lashes to this pony.
I’ve been trying to figure out why every mascara I’ve worn in the last few months has been sorely disappointing, and I think I might’ve found the reason. After years of using lash serum to bump up my fringe, I quit last fall. There was really no rhyme or reason to the decision; I was mostly too exhausted to remember to put it on before bed! Days turned into weeks, then weeks turned into months, then next thing ya know, every mascara bums me out.

I think my lashes have slowly returned to their natural state, which is in the grand scheme of things is no big deal. but still.

On one hand, it’s one less thing for me to do in my routine (YES), but on the other hand, my hella basic lashes are back. LOL.

What are your thoughts on lash serums? Do you use them? Don’t use them? If you’ve used them in the past and quit, what happened to your lashes? I’d love to hear your story.

Blogmas Day 21: Christmas store windows & screens

one of the very best things about the holidays is seeing all of the store windows dressed up with joyful displays. In Toronto, the Hudson’s Bay always put on an elegant screen in their windows which is extremely anticipated when they’re revealed in November.  I occurred to be walking by when I observed a van providing this year’s holiday props:

Canada geese!  The windows behind them were still covered up at the time.

Here they are unveiled:

The figurines are mechanical so they step as well as have music playing too:

I keep in mind one year they really had online kitties in the screens in support of the regional animal shelter!

Here are a couple of photos inside of the Hudson’s Bay store – this is where those Canada Geese went to:

And lastly, right here are some photos of inside our downtown mall, the Eaton Centre.  A few years back they brought out these gigantic reindeer – I discover them a bit gaudy however people seem to like them:

We truly like our Canada Geese:

There utilized to be a gorgeous Christmas tree made from countless Swarovski crystals however it was retired as well as replaced with this which has got mixed reviews:

And that’s what our stores look like at Christmas time. exactly how do they embellish the regional stores / buying shopping centers where you live?

January 2022 book list

Hi there, friend! I hope everything on your end is good and that this week has been treating you well.

The other day, in the Monday Poll, Tisha asked the following question in the comments:

Btw, what are you reading? I’ve been dying to get my hands on a good book, sounds like fun!

I read lots of great fiction last month. My favorite out of the bunch was “Klara and the Sun,” by Kazuo Ishiguro. It’s science fiction, but not the kind that involves aliens destroying the earth or superheroes saving the universe from killer snakes from outer space.

It’s a quiet story of a robot companion and her teenage charge, and it contemplates what it implies to love and be human. Days after I finished the last page, I kept thinking about the story, and my heart would feel both heavy and hopeful at the same time.

Sigh… I’m not ready for the rise of the machines, man.

Still, I loved it. It’s one of the best books I’ve read in years.

I’ve recently discovered that Reese Witherspoon (yup, the actress) has a book club, kinda like Oprah’s book Club. Every book that she’s recommended so far, I’ve enjoyed. In January I finished…

“The Giver of Stars,” by Jojo Moyes

I started this a while back but stopped reading when it got scary for the main characters, librarians who travel by horseback into the far reaches of the Kentucky mountains during the Depression. I just couldn’t take it and needed a break. I’m so glad I finished this book, though. It’s about friendship and resilience, and the relationships between the women are beautiful.

“The Last story of Mina Lee,” by Nancy Jooyoun Kim

This mystery is about a Korean woman who immigrates to Los Angeles in the ’80s and her daughter, and it flips back and forth between the past and the present as the story unfolds. I had to force myself to put the book down before bed! It’s one of those books you could easily read cover to cover.

“The Henna Artist,” by Alka Joshi

Another page turner! It’s set in 1950’s India, and it’s about a woman trying to make it on her own in a world where there aren’t a lot of opportunities. Again, I couldn’t put it down.

That Reese Witherspoon knows how to pick some good books.

I also read a couple non-fiction books, too. “Painless Grammar,” by Rebecca Elliott, is written for kids, but it’s a fun refresher on basics of the English Language. I also delighted in “The easy Filipino Cookbook,” by Roline Casper, and I can’t wait to try some of her recipes.

Sundays With Tabs the Cat, makeup and beauty blog Mascot, Vol. 663

“The Caviar Caper: A Tabs the cat Adventure”

PART III

(Click here to read part I and here for part II.)

Well I’ll be… It was Linus. Tabs lifted the sterling silver lid from the serving tray. Yup, there it was, the missing caviar. about fifty thousand dollars worth.

Down below on the lawn, Detective Kinard was talking to Linus, who had his back to the large tree and to Tabs. Tabs started waving his arms above his head to get the detective’s attention. The detective glanced up at him, and Tabs emphatically pointed down at Linus, then held up the shiny silver lid from the serving tray to show the detective. It was him!

Below, the detective was making small talk with Linus to keep him preoccupied. They were discussing their favorite seasons of project Runway.

“So,” Linus said, “on balance, I would have to say that season one, since it’s the season that started it all, would have to be my overall favorite.”

The detective nodded. “Makes sense.” He removed a pair of small handcuffs from his belt behind his back. “Linus,” the detective started, “you’re under arrest for grand larceny…”

“Mrow!” Linus giggled. Ha! He appeared to believe the detective was joking.

“Put your paws behind your back,” the detective continued.

Looking confused, Linus obliged. “Meow?” I’m…sorry? What’s this about?

Tabs backed his way down the tree awkwardly.

“You’re under arrest for stealing the caviar,” the detective said as knelt and put Linus’s tiny paws into the handcuffs.

“Meow?” asked Linus. What?

Tabs walked up beside Linus and the detective. “Mrow?” Tabs asked, hurt in his voice. Why, Linus? how could you?

“Meow?” Linus answered. how could I what? Mr. Tabs, what’s this about?

“Mow-row?” Tabs said. just tell me why you did it?

Just then, a blue Toyota Camry rolled up onto the circle and pulled over by the lawn. little Archibald slung his overly large Luis Vuitton backpack across his shoulder and held out the diamond-encrusted iphone Tabs loaned him to call his mommy cat. “Mwow,” he squeaked. Um, thank you, sir, for letting me borrow your phone.

“Meow,” Tabs replied, taking the phone from Archibald’s tiny paw. You’re welcome, Archibald. I’m so sorry you had to witness this. Tabs put the bejeweled phone into the sleek, black quilted leather channel fanny pack he was wearing and returned his attention to Linus.

Detective Kinard was escorting Linus away toward two nearby uniformed police officers. “Book him on a 487, grand theft,” the detective said. Linus was staring down at the ground in front of him as the officers guided him to a nearby police car.

“Mwow!” Archibald called back to Tabs as he opened the back passenger door of the blue Toyota. It was still a terrific party! He hopped in the backseat and closed the door. The Toyota slowly pulled away from the curb. Tabs saw a man behind the wheel.

“Meow-wow?” Tabs heard Linus say as the officers pushed him into the back of a patrol car. What is going on here? I didn’t do anything!

The blue Toyota with Archibald in it rounded the circle. Tabs noticed the man driving was wearing a very smart black shirt with purple stripes down the shoulders. It was quite fashionable. Tabs knew he had seen the design before but couldn’t place it.

The Toyota took the last turn before leaving the circle, and Tabs got a good look at the driver and his shirt. Being a world-renowned kitty supermodel and award-winning feline fashion designer, Tabs couldn’t resist anything related to good fashion. He just wished he could remember where he’d seen this design before.

As the automobile pulled away, Tabs noticed a sticker on the bumper. Fedex.

Fedex, Tabs pondered. Holy! The driver was wearing a Fedex shirt!

Tabs finally knew what it meant. He heard Linus crying in the backseat of the patrol car. I didn’t do anything! Why is this happening?

Just then, Tabs lept into action, sprinting at full speed to intercept the Toyota before it left the circle. “Meowwww!” he roared. It wasn’t Linus! It was Archibald!

Detective Kinard watched as Tabs jumped straight through the driver’s side open window of the Toyota, smashing into the driver. The automobile swerved sharply, coming to an abrupt stop as it struck the curb.

Inside the car, Tabs quickly subdued the driver with tabby jiujitsu until the detective and one of the uniformed police officers arrived. They pulled the driver and Archibald from the vehicle and promptly handcuffed both of them.

“Damnit!” the driver yelled. “I knew we’d never get away with it!”

“Meow!” barked Archibald. shut up, you idiot! Don’t tell them anything!

Back over at the other police car, Tabs opened the back door and helped Linus out. “Meow…” he said. I’m sorry, Linus… “Mrow-ow.” This was a terrible mistake. You have my sincerest apologies. Tabs unlocked the handcuffs Linus was wearingwith a set of keys he was holding.

“Mrow,” Linus replied, sounding relieved. It’s okay, sir. I’m just delighted everything worked out.

“Meow-row-wow,” Tabs said, patting Linus on the head. You’re a real class act, buddy. with that silky fur and that positive cattitude, I have no doubt you’ll be an incredible kitty supermodel.

“Meow!” Linus said. thank you! That means a lot coming from you, sir.

TBT: MAC Twig

In today’s Throwback Thursday post, I’m showing my MAC Twig lipstick:

The colour in itself isn’t truly a throwback, although I’m willing to bet money that the shade has been around since the inception of MAC.  But what’s TBT about this lipstick is the bullet.  It’s silver.  And no, it’s not a restricted edition.

All of MAC’s lipsticks utilized to be in these cleaned silver tubes.  I can’t recall the precise year I bought this, however I’m quite sure this lipstick is close to 10 years old.  The lipstick tubes truly did look like silver bullets back then.  These days, aside from restricted edition collections, MAC lipsticks are housed in the exact same shape however in black tubes (the routine line, not the Mineralize rich ones):

The silver tubes didn’t have a MAC logo on the outside.  But even before that, the tubes were really not the rounded bullets we come to associate with MAC, they just had flat tops:

Source – original MAC lipstick tube on the left.
I don’t wear my tube of Twig on my lips anymore, however when I put it to my nose, the scent is the exact same as when I very first bought it.  It swatches just fine on my skin as well:

It has been suggested that perhaps the older formulas with all of the preservatives as well as “bad” ingredients most likely helped to keep the lipstick from turning (compared to exactly how quickly newer formulas turn – I had a MAC Peachstock from liberty of London collection turn poor within 3 years).

Here’s a comparison of MAC Twig (described by MAC as “Soft muted brownish-pink, in a Satin formula) against other similar shades from my stash, L to R:
• Shiseido perfect Rouge Pink Mesa PK303
• Lise Watier Rouge Fondant ultimate Sandra
• MAC Cosmo (Amplified Creme)
• MAC Twig
• Rimmel lasting surface Kate Moss in 08
• Illamasqua Glamore nude Lipstick in Minx
• Bite beauty luminous Crème Lipstick in Musk

I bought MAC Cosmo as a replacement for Twig as well as I much prefer it over Twig – it’s warmer as well as less brown – more wearable for everyday.  The closest match of the lot is really the Shiseido (it’s a hair more cool-toned), which is fantastic since I like the Shiseido formula.

I threw in the Bite beauty in Musk into the mix even though it’s not truly a close match (it’s as well warm)… mainly because I only just recently lastly opened that Luminous Crème duo that I bought last Christmas ::facepalm::  The other end contains Retsina, which is a pale nude shade.  I’m once again reminded of exactly how much stuff I have!

Do you keep in mind when MAC lipsticks were in the silver bullet tubes?  MAC lipsticks are now CAD $20 each however I believe I paid $14 for Twig.  Does anyone keep in mind exactly how much MAC lipsticks were 10 years ago?

Today, it’s all about MAC Fleur Power blush ($22), homie. wear it with smoky eyes — any smoky eyes — and you’ll be set. It’s a mid-temp pink with a kiss of coral, so it goes great with warm- or cool-toned smoky eye looks.

If you love a natural-looking pink cheek flush, like where you look like you just came in from the cold and your cheeks look all cherub-y, Fleur Power kicks butt.

It’s an outstanding everyday blush with all-day staying power, and I’d even go so far as to call it widely flattering.

And because it’s part of the MAC permanent line, you can always get your paws on it. No need to worry about it disappearing into limited edition makeup oblivion.

Technically a MAC Satin Blush, Fleur Power looks much more like a matte on my cheeks. I hardly see anything satin or shimmery about it, but that also makes it treat my pores and fine lines well.

I typically wear Fleur Power with either brown or gray smoky eyes, by the way, because I like how the pink injects some color into the look without taking over. then I couple that with either a pale or bright pink lip.

You could also rock it with a brighter eye look, like a purple or blue smoky eye, but in that case, I’d probably choose a nude lip instead of pink, lest you end up with a whole lotta color on your face… Unless that’s what you want, and if you do, hey, that’s cool too.

MAC Fleur Power blush swatched on my NC42 skin

I suggest softly tapping your blush brush into the pan when you work with this color because it’s SO pigmented. I get way too much if I just swirl. Fo’ reals, you only need a little.
