Funky Bullets! A quick look at a few shades From the Estée Lauder Pure color love Lipstick Line

From the left: four of 30 Estée Lauder Pure love Lipsticks ($22 each) in Shock & Awe, Blase Buff, radical chic and Raw Sugar
I can’t be the only person out there whose first thought when they saw these funky angled bullets was to use them as a whistle…

Wearing and holding radical Chic
I just can’t be!

For the record, you can apply the Estée Lauder Pure love Lipsticks ($22 each) straight from the bullets, then rub your lips together to step the lipstick around, but the color concentrates in the middle and feathers out unevenly to where it ends up looking like you were trying to recreate something editorial, chic and Vogue-like but didn’t quite get there…

The angled idea does work well, especially for getting into the corners and around the edges of your lips, but it’s a tad awkward to wield at first.

Four of 30 shades from the top in Blase Buff, Raw Sugar, radical chic and Shock & Awe
The line launched this spring in a whole mess of pretty inexpensive $22 colors and finishes — 30 total — with some striking brights, like Shock & Awe, an opaque semi-matte bright red that completely covers my lips in a single swipe.

I’m feelin’ it.

The four I’ve tried feel fab, creamy and comfortable. They also smell and taste like brown sugar (YUM!). I like ’em, even if it takes a minute or two to master the funky bullet!

** THE GIVEAWAY IS closed **
This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, BONNIE CLYNE!!!), but check back next Saturday for another giveaway.

Good morning, glory! rise and shine. I hope you slept well. I need to admit…I tossed and turned a lot last night, and I’m not sure why. It was probably one part baby girl doing her baby girl things, and one part Jessica Jones, which I marathon’d on Netflix last night.

It’s that new marvel comics series starring Krysten Ritter and Carrie-Ann Moss who, coincidence of all coincidences, I bumped into getting cheese in Vancouver, British Columbia, a few years ago.

Yup, El Hub and I were there just checking out for one of my birthdays, and there she was, Carrie-Ann, Trinity herself from the Matrix movies, ordering cheese at a big deli and toting around two babies in strollers.

I didn’t want to interrupt her, so I didn’t say anything, but now I wish I had said “hi!” (Just like that — like a crazy person.)

I like the show so far, but it’s kind of intense… I mean, you know me with sci-fi and comic book stuff, so I like it, but enjoying it before bed was probably NOT one of my all-time best overall lifetime ideas, haha.

Quick Tip: get Hotter Smoky Eyes With the urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadows

urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Zodiac ($21)
Here’s a quick way to take nighttime smoky eyes from “glam” to “Glam! Bam! thank you, ma’am!”

Just do this: add glitter.

Yup! I know, right? What a huge shocker… After you finish doing your smoky eye, if you feel like full-on hot dayum drama, get a glitter eyeshadow, and pop that ish on your lids.

The $21 urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadows are great for this.

Before urban Decay Zodiac

And after!

The Moondust shadows come in a pan and include much more glitter than pigment, so you don’t get a ton of eyeshadow-y color with them, but you do get a lot of glittery sparkle.

Using them to turn a smoky eye into a smokin’ hot smoky eye is as easy as 1, 2, 3…

Grab a glitter shadow that’ll choose your smoky eye. here I’m wearing a blue and teal smoky eye, so I’m using glittery turquoise urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Zodiac.

Load a flat eyeshadow brush with your glitter, then spritz it with a makeup mist or setting spray (something like MAC Fix+ will work great) to wet the brush head. I’m using Avene Thermal spring Water (just because it was close by at the time).

Carefully pat — not swipe — the glitter on your lids in the area around your lash line. try to avoid dragging it up into the crease, because we want to keep the glitter concentrated on our lids.

Sparkle by urban Decay Zodiac…

If that’s not enough drama for you (I completely understand), finish with false lashes! I’m wearing the beauty salon ideal Demi Wispies.

Unsung makeup Heroes: The $5 Ardell baby Demi Wispies false Lashes

Baby, I love you!
The long-running Unsung Heroes series here on makeup and charm blog features some of our all-time favorite permanent collection products.

Oh, lawd, when I see very dramatic lashes now at Ulta or Sephora I always think, “Those would make me look completely insane.”

Mind you, I’ve rocked big, real-deal false lashes numerous times before, and they’re fun, and some are much more comfortable than others are, but at this stage in my life, after having not worn falsies very often for months, I feel like the big, flashy falsies make me look nuts, and that’s where these Ardell baby Demi Wispies come in.

Girl, these are SO GOOD! and they’re only $5.

Wearing the Ardell baby Demi Wispies

They’re like Ardell’s much more well-known and incredible Demi Wispies (OH! I used to wear those all the time.) and have a similar shape, where the lashes are longer and flare out on the side corners, but the baby Wispies have markedly shorter lashes overall.

They marvelously merge with my real lashes when I wear them and look darned near natural. I’ve seen people pause when they see my eyes, like they’re wondering, “Hmm… Is she wearing false lashes?” and I’d rather keep people wondering. It’s funner than when they can tell best off the bat.

Love these!
I wore a pair for the first time last week with the urban Decay Afterdark Palette, and they were just the best amount of lash for that look.

LOVE ‘EM.

Next time I find them on sale, you better believe #makeuphoarder mode will kick in.

Normally priced, though, they’re still a good deal. I know they’re available at Sally charm supply for about $5 each.

MAC Unsung Heroes: High Tea Lipstick

MAC High Tea
What’s an unsung makeup hero? For me, it’s an usually underrated makeup morsel, a long-term collection product that scoots under the radar screen of numerous makeup enthusiasts however routinely rocks my world. The long-running Unsung Heroes series features a few of my favorites.

There ain’t no celebration like a high tea celebration ’cause a high tea celebration don’t stop!

This occurs to me not only since I’m currently craving tea as well as those small sandwiches from The Rotunda once again (OH, MAH GOSH! So good…), however likewise since of the just recently introduced frosty beige MAC Mariah Carey Lipstick.

Even though I can completely photo Mimi rocking a frosty beige lipstick, it’s the type of color that isn’t always simple to wear, which got me wondering about other MAC lipsticks with a kinda-sorta similar vibe.

After combing my mental MAC files, I kept in mind High Tea. It’s a $17 pearly beige pink in the MAC Lustre Lipstick line, as well as it has just sufficient frostiness to hit those high notes without being so frosty that it becomes challenging to wear.

Wearing MAC High Tea on my lips
MAC High Tea
There was a time when I was routinely using tubes of High Tea down to the nub (you understand I like me some nude lips). It’s one of those “it chooses everything” nude lipsticks, as well as I believe it looks fantastic by itself for a quickie nude lip.

Maybe since of the subtle frosty, shiny finish, it likewise makes my lips look a bit fuller (I think). Yup, being a MAC Lustre, High Tea has a glossy, holiday-hoppin’ finish, however it isn’t sticky like a gloss, which implies that I can wear it without fretting about my hair whipping around when it’s windy as well as getting stuck to my pout.

I discover that I do have to reapply the lightweight, moderately moisturizing formula after snacks, drinks as well as meals, however that’s not a huge offer for me. I don’t mind. I kinda believe it’s fun (and MAC’s signature vanilla flavor as well as scent get me every time).

Also, when you’re in the mood to layer, try it with MAC Lip Pencil in Subculture or the MAC pro Longwear Lip Pencils in Oh Honey or Cultured. I like exactly how they look with High Tea. Or, try it with something like a nude pinkish gloss on top, like MAC Plushglass in huge Baby.

P.S. TGIF!

Do You wear a lot more makeup during the Week or on the Weekend?

Oh, ya know…just headed out to run errands on a Tuesday morning. The lip is Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in 602 Visionary Matte, by the way.
Nowadays I hardly wear any makeup on the weekends. Like, often none.

I mean, I put on a little last Saturday to go to the salon, mostly because I didn’t want to stare at myself in the mirror for two hours without having at least a little something on, but yeah, I don’t normally wear a lot of makeup on the weekends. I’ll let my skin breathe…

But that’s not the real reason. It’s also pure laziness, because I wear a lot of makeup to blog during the week, and that’s fun and I take pleasure in it, but I don’t really go big ideal now on the weekends.

Maybe someday, you know, if Connor wants to go clubbing with her ancient mom, I’ll put some glitter on my lids and something sparkly on my lips, and we’ll go to Club X together in the city.

Oh, gosh…

How about you? Do you wear a lot more makeup during the week, or do you wear a lot more on the weekend?

Antonym Cosmetics Baked foundation in medium Dark

Viva l’Italia!
Italy.

Land of pasta, romance, wine, George Clooney’s villa on Lake Como, as well as baked powder. A long time ago, somebody told me that if you want the very best baked powders, go to Italy, which somebody at Antonym Cosmetics obviously did, since their bad-@ss $38 Baked foundation hails from the boot,

Viva l’Italia!

Antonym Cosmetics Baked foundation in medium Dark on top of Antonym Skin Esteem foundation in Tan
I believe it’s a bit inaccurate, though, to phone call this a baked foundation. “Baked tinted moisturizer” may be more apt. First, this isn’t full coverage, as well as it isn’t super dense like so many other baked foundations are. The protection is sheer however build-able as much as medium, as well as the velvet matte surface is one of the most convincingly skin-like completes I’ve ever seen.

Medium Dark is the second to darkest shade

Antonym Cosmetics Baked foundation in medium Dark ingredients

Talc, Mica, Lauroyl Lysine, Zea Mays Starch*, Squalane, Octyldodecanol, Hectorite, Water, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Benzyl Alcohol,Dehydroacetic Acid, Sorbic Acid. *Ingredient From organic Farming (+/-) may Contain: Ci 77491 (Iron Oxides), Ci 77492 (Iron Oxides), Ci 77499 (Iron Oxides), Ci 77891 (Titanium Dioxide)

Like every powder product I’ve tried from the cruelty-free organic Antonym line so far, this is all type of fabulous. It’s a great deal like MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, a.k.a. “The only powder I’ve used daily for the last five years.” (It’s that serious.).

But as much as I like MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, I believe this has an even finer formula, as well as since I like it when my skin really appears like skin, it’s amore! It looks oh, so natural, whether on bare skin, where I’ll usually apply it after a sunscreen by Drunk Elephant, or after foundation or tinted moisturizer.

If your powder prerequisites include full-on Insta-glam opaque coverage, you most likely won’t be into this at all, however if you just want to even things out while retaining the bit freckles, beauty marks as well as occasional feline scratches that make you, you, Antonym Cosmetics Baked foundation is where it’s at.

Recommended for all skin types, particularly those belonging to people who like natural-looking completes as well as very little coverage…and presuming you can discover a shade that works for ya, since there are only six available. It is available in Fair, Light, Nude, Medium-Beige, medium Dark as well as Dark.

MAC definitely has them beat there, for sure, with their 18 shades of Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

(Psst, Antonym! inspect out what Fenty likewise did, as well as expand your shade selection.)

If you’re interested, I’d suggest getting it from Sephora, since you may want to utilize their generous return policy if a shade doesn’t work out for you.

Front Row fabulous With the Giorgio Armani Front Row Collection

The Lip Maestro (one of one, $38), Ecstasy Lacquers (five of six, $38 each) and the Rouge D’Armani Sheers (six of six, $37 each) from the Giorgio Armani Front Row Collection, available now
If I someone told me that I was going to sit in the front row at Paris fashion Week for the Chanel show, my first reaction would be, are you for real!? I would love that, but then…what would I wear? A designer closet, I do not have, and I don’t know if I could get away with high-waisted black Zellas.

Hmm…

The Giorgio Armani Front Row Collection: A new launch of LE lipsticks and gloss-like liquid lipsticks

These are nudes with ‘tude. There are six nude lipsticks ($38 each), six nude lip glosses/liquid lipsticks ($37 each) and a long-wearing nude liquid lipstick ($38) in the release, but before you grab a cup of Sleepytime Tea and peel off your pants (a.k.a. your trousers, for those of us from the UK) to take a nap, these are not snooze-worthy nudes. This is an Armani-style magnum opus of nude with pink, coral and beige works of art.

But let’s be real here — you can find these color families for less. That’s true, but Armani’s lipstick, liquid lipstick and lip gloss formulas (these are all unscented and unflavored) are different in the best possible way. While I was swatching these, I kept thinking, “Why aren’t more brands ripping off Armani??”

Lip Maestro (liquid lipstick): Front Row Collection

Lovely Lip Maestro in 514 ($38) is the solitary liquid lipstick in the launch. An opaque neutral pink, it has a half-matte, half-satin finish, which is something you don’t see every day.

Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 514 ($38)

It latches onto lips like a long-wearing liquid lipstick, but man! — it is still SO comfortable and moisturizing. It doesn’t crack or look weird after a couple of hours like so many other liquid lipsticks do.

(Note to self: start obsessively fancying the other Armani Lip Maestros.)

Ecstasy Lacquer (liquid lipstick): Front Row Collection

There are six shades in the collection, and I’m all about the coral shade (511) and all of the pink shades…especially 510 and 512.

Giorgio Armani Ecsasy Lacquer in 605 ($38)
Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Lacquer in 512 ($38)
They actually feel like a semi-sticky gloss when you put them on, but they hang on for dear life! We’re talking three or four hours at least. I can still see them on my lips after a hot cup of coffee, and when they fade, they don’t leave behind that weird white line in the center of your lips.

Giorgio Armani Ecsasy Lacquer in 511 ($38)
Giorgio Armani Ecsasy Lacquer in 510 ($38)
Giorgio Armani Ecsasy Lacquer in 205 ($38)
Rouge D’Armani sheer (sheer lipstick): Front Row Collection

In a word, impressive. These six feel slick and light like a lip balm, but the colors are more concentrated, like they should be thicker and heavier than they are.

Giorgio Armani Rouge D’Armani sheer in 605 ($37)
Giorgio Armani Rouge D’Armani sheer in 513 ($37)
Giorgio Armani Rouge D’Armani sheer in 512 ($37)
It’s funny to me that these are called “Sheer” because they have So. Much. Pigment. They’re bomb (or balm, hahaha).

Giorgio Armani Rouge D’Armani sheer in 511 ($37)
Giorgio Armani Rouge D’Armani sheer in 510 ($37)
Giorgio Armani Rouge D’Armani sheer in 205 ($37)
The verdict

I feel like some of Armani’s makeup is perhaps overpriced (their eyeshadows and face powders), but I think their lip products are totally on point, even for $37 and $38. all of these are pigmented, long lasting, moisturizing and comfortable as heck. and the formulas are unique. I love everything about this collection (except for the prices). Insert raise the roof hands *right here.*

Which Eyeshadow Palettes Do You regularly reach For?

#hoarders
It seems like every season all of the brands come out with new eyeshadow palettes, right?

It’s like the thing to do now.

But how often do people actually use those palettes? speaking for myself, a lot of the time I’ll fall in ? love with a palette, use it vigorously for a month, and then stick it in the drawer where I keep my nude/natural palettes (the ones with every shade of brown you can possibly imagine are the ones I love the most).

Then I’ll kinda forget about it for a few months…

Even though I’m a bonafide eyeshadow palette #hoarder, there’s still really only one I use all the time.

I know, right?! It’s the MAC Nordstrom Naturals Palette, which has 15 fantastic shades from the permanent line all in ONE PLACE.

The MAC Nordstrom Naturals Eyeshadow Palette
Granted, it’s not a very flashy palette or revolutionary or anything, but the shades happen to be the ones I use the most, like, Wedge, Carbon, Brun, Satin Taupe, Woodwinked, Mulched… The only thing missing is Soft Brown, but I typically have a single pan of that in my makeup bag anyway.

Unfortunately, Nordstrom Naturals was LE, but you can recreate it with an empty $8 MAC pro pan palette and the pro palette Refill Pans (which are only $6 each!).

How about you? Which eyeshadow palettes do you reach for on the regular? There are so numerous purr-worthy palettes out there to collect and love (and hoard, haha!), but which ones do you actually use on a daily basis?
